About the Film RIP: A Remix Manifesto

Montreal filmmaker, Brett Gaylor's Rip: A Remix Manifesto is an open source documentary about copyright and remix culture in the 21st century. With hundreds of collaborators, the film created over six years shatters the boundary between users and producers as it questions the differences between fair use and piracy. John Gomeshi, of CBC Q, calls the film, " The Sexiest film about copyright infringement I've ever seen." Winner of numerous awards, the film includes such notables as Lawrence Lessig, founder of Creative Commons, Cory Doctorow, culture critic, Brazil's minister of Culture Gilberto Gil and Girl Talk, a mashup musician. 3. Our future is becoming less free
4. To build free societies you must limit control of the past.

Thought provoking, the film or clips of the film could be used by educators to discuss copyright and the open source movement with colleagues and students.
